Prince of Songkla University Hosts National Training Seminar to Advance Hospitality and Tourism Education in Thailand
5-Day Training Program: Enhancing Hospitality and Tourism Education June 30 – July 4, 2025 The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism at Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Phuket Campus, has officially launched the National Training Seminar: 5-Day Training Program on Enhancing Hospitality and Tourism Education — a strategic initiative designed to elevate the quality, relevance, and innovation of hospitality and tourism education across Thailand.
Held at the ASTRA Meeting Room, 4th floor of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Building, the seminar brings together leading educators, curriculum developers, and industry experts from higher education institutions nationwide. The program supports capacity building by integrating global academic standards, ethical practices, and innovative teaching methodologies into curriculum development.
This seminar also formed part of the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme under the INNO4Tourism Project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The primary objective was to transfer practical and theoretical knowledge on curriculum development for sustainable tourism to academic staff from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Participants were equipped to:
- Enhance teaching and learning methodologies;
- Apply innovative curriculum development strategies;
- Transfer knowledge within their own institutions and related fields. Key topics included:
- Sustainable tourism skills
- Entrepreneurship and innovation
- Tourism and hospitality management
- Digital and green skills
- Soft skills and cross-cultural communication
Daily Highlights & Speaker Program
Throughout the five-day seminar, participants engaged with a wide range of topics critical to preparing a future-ready tourism workforce. Each day focused on a specific theme, led by academic speakers:
Day 1: June 30, 2025
Topic: Designing Curriculum with the End in Mind
Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tatiyaporn Jarumaneerat
Focus: Introduction to backward curriculum design and aligning teaching strategies with desired academic outcomes.
Day 2: July 1, 2025
Topic: Industry-Academia Collaboration through UBC Mechanisms
Speaker: Dr. Patthawee Insuwanno
Focus: Strengthening university-business collaboration (UBC) to create industry-responsive and practical learning models.
Day 3: July 2, 2025
Topic: Enhancing Quality and Ethics in Tourism Education
Speaker: Asst. Prof. Kanapot Kannaovakun
Focus: Integrating UNWTO TedQual standards and the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism to promote responsible tourism education.
Day 4: July 3, 2025
Topic: Defining and Aligning Learning for Impact
Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prathana Kannaovakun
Focus: Designing learning outcomes and assessments for measurable academic and industry impact.
Day 5: July 4, 2025
Topic: Innovative Teaching for Responsible and Regenerative Tourism
Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornpisanu Promsivapallop
Focus: Implementing innovative teaching practices to foster regenerative tourism mindsets and sustainable leadership among students.
This training seminar is part of the INNO4Tourism Project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The project aims to build institutional capacity for innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity in tourism education and addressing these core areas, the seminar aimed to align tourism education with global sustainability goals and the evolving demands of the tourism industry. It also supports the broader INNO4Tourism mission of fostering inclusive, responsible, and high-impact education practices across across Asia and Europe
